Industrial Glam Office

Gently pushing clients out of their comfort zone with interior decor is one of the many reasons why individuals   look to interior designers in the first place. You may see something that you love perhaps a wall color, sofa, artwork but you are just not sure how to pull it all together and afraid of making the financial investment and not loving the final outcome. Well, decorators like myself also have to push themselves out of their comfort zones and be able to bring to life the vision the client or they may even have even if they are nervous about it. I did that with this design above. Industrial style decor is not up there on my top favorite styles out right now but I do love exposed brick walls and the some architectural elements of it, for example beams, industrial doors and windows etc. So how did I do bringing some glam into this space? I always love to hear your feedback:)

Monday's Musings: Bulletin Boards

the sweetest thank you card, invitation to next weeks BBQ, your little one's newest crayola drawing, this years school picture of your nephew....where do we put all these treasures and reminders? The refrigerator is most people's favorite spot and maybe inside the junk drawer that we all have in our kitchen? Bulletin boards are a great way to consolidate all of these pieces and collectively display them for all to see. I used to have one in my kitchen and it was the first place people would go and check out when they came over, they loved it! Here are some great DIY bulletin board options to check out which may inspire you to give it a try!

Here is my attempt and I am pretty happy with how it came out!

Sorry I have been so absent from blogging these days.......honestly, I have been struggling getting motivated. I have been busy working, hosting and taking care of many other important things that I just can't seem to justify spending so much time on my computer......especially when it is so beautiful outside and all I want to do is be out there tending to my flower garden and soaking in the sun:) I promise to try to strike some kind of balance so I can give my readers something to enjoy! Your following means a lot.......xo

Pale, Cameo, Cherry Blossom and Carnation PINK!

A variety of names for the beautiful color of pink! Pink blossoms during spring are one of the most spectacular sites to feast your eyes on.

Many travel to Washington DC for the cherry blossom festival to enjoy them but I don't have to go to far away from home. The main street in our cute town of is Clinton, NJ is lined with them! Every May we actually have a cherry blossom festival ourselves.

So the inspiration color of decor for today....you guessed it pink! Toned down, accented with or full bold pink can brighten any room and it doesn't have to be to feminine, so don't hesitate to incorporate pink into a space in your home!

My New Favorite Picks from Clayton Gray Home

This image takes my breath away....That hasn't happened in quite a while and one of the features I love the most are these gorgeous chairs. So I searched all over and finally found chairs very similar to the vintage ones in the photo. I was so excited until I saw the price but one can dream.....is my motto! Here are some other great black and brass things at Clayton Gray Home that I wanted to share! Do you love them as much as I do?

Our Home Office Redo Part 1!

Moving…..it has been a bit overwhelming for me this time for many reasons but we are finally getting somewhere. We are currently moving back into our house, doing a small renovation project and doing a good spring cleaning all at the same time. It has been a little crazy but we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!!!!!

The first project I want to share with you is the cosmetic redo of our home office and stairway! I have been wanting to do this for such a long time and finally it is here. This space is not a room with a door like most home offices but “loft” like in that it has an open railing to the stair way. The long wall down the stairs leads into our living room so the challenge has always been where to end of the color from upstairs to the downstairs. Do you have the same challenge? So this time I decided to paint three of the walls and leave the longer wall out to carry the color up from the living room. These pictures below I hope explain what I am trying to say…

So I went back and forth with colors and I really wanted to this room to be the one that has color on the wall. Most of our home is neutral but I really wanted to bring in a color somehow. I wanted to step out of my box but  I was so nervous choosing…. I did decide on a navy blue but the shade of blue was throwing me. I have this rustic element in the room with the old wooden beams and wanted to kind of keep that feel.

Here are some of the color samples we were thinking about….

We lingered on some of these colors and viewed them in the morning and evening to get a real sense of each one. That is a great tip when choosing a paint color. My husband’s suggestion was the deciding factor and the winner is “Hale Navy” by Ben Moore in a matte finish which is the paint swatch on the bottom. OK so I have to admit when I opened the can I gasped a bit thinking it has a purple undertone….not what I was looking for but I knew it would dry darker so I painted away and here is the finished room painted!!!! No regrets picking this color at all and it gives me the earthy, rustic and natural look that I was looking for.

Here is the room finished with the new flooring and new paint!!!

The stairway and railing are still be worked on by my hubby but hopefully this weekend it will all be done:)

I will soon post pictures of the office furniture and décor accents but it will take me a few weeks to pull this all together. I am really excited to show you the finished room as soon as I can. Thanks for reading today and let me know what you think about the wall color!!!!!

Pretty In Pink - Spring Colors For Your Home Series!

If you are in your thirties like me.....When I say "Pretty In Pink" do your thoughts go back to Molly Ringwald and Jon Cryer in the classic 1980's film? I know I am definitely dating myself but today I want to use this phrase to describe these beautiful rooms below. From my own personal experience pink is a color you have to be committed to. It has such a feminine feel and is used in nurseries and little girl's rooms all the time but not often throughout the rest of the house. I hope the hues and touches of pink in these rooms make you reconsider pink as a great color to use!
