Delectable Dining Rooms!

Cold and blustery winter months brings to mind comfort food around the dining room table with family and good friends! Is that how you have been spending your weekends? I sure hope so! Good food and good conversation go hand in hand. Today, many home owners comment that dining rooms are for special formal occasions and  they end up going unused for long periods of time. So, why not make that gathering place in your home as inviting as it can be and start using it more this month! Below are some favorite dining spaces that inspire me!

This dining room perfectly reflects both its owners' tastes. Clean lines, a cool color palette, and minimal accessories please the husband's contemporary leanings, while heavy drapes, a dripping chandelier, and rich wood tones satisfy the wife's traditional interests.

Are you stuck with a table that's no longer your style? Take heart. This dining room surrounds a neutral contemporary table with French Country style. Tones of white and cream on the walls are reflected in the creamware collection and the chair fabric as well.

Devoid of frills, this dining room adopts traditional elements displayed with an eye for contemporary simplicity. Diagonally installed wood flooring mimics an area rug, while up at the ceiling a crystal chandelier stands out against the casually rough brick fireplace.
  • The floor's diagonal lines draw the eye into the space.
  • Vaulted ceilings add height and volume to this small room.
  • White walls and upholstery contribute to a contemporary feel.
  • The absence of accessories keeps the look simple.

Fine antiques and rich fabrics give this dining room a heightened sense of grandeur. The Louis Philippe dining chairs were upholstered in an orange-melon hue pulled from the antique Oushak rug. A gold and crystal French chandelier continues the high-minded style overhead.

Highly reflective, the tabletop contrasts with the matte textures of jute carpeting and linen draperies.

Overstocked Seating and Tables!

OverStock.com furniture can sometimes have the reputation for being mediocre in quality. I am not disagreeing completely because I did buy a table and was disappointed myself with the quality, but lately many design bloggers and homeowners have shared the pieces they have purchased and relate how happy they are with the quality and most of all the pricing! I started doing some research and read most reviews and I found some interesting seating and tables that I wanted to share with you all!

All of these beautiful pieces are no more than $300! Are any of these appealing to you? Please check the website and order before it is too late!

Heads Up!

I am not advocating hunting by any means nor do I like real animal heads hanging in my living room, but I am going to show you these amazing faux deer and moose heads that I think are just adorable! As you know by now, my decorating style leans towards traditional with a shabby chic twist and then throw in that eclectic antique here and there and there you have it! A funky contemporary style also draws me at times and that is what I think of when I saw these. Can you imagine them hanging on a charcoal grey wall with small mirrors or pictures hung on both sides or how about above the fire place mantel? The soft cable knit deer heads would be a fun addition to a little boy's nursery or maybe that is a little too scary! Anyway, there are a number of cool places to hang these. I am featuring three styles below. Click on the link for more details. Enjoy these!

The first ones I feature below are from Esty. Ruby's Lounge and Hi feature these great heads that are wrapped in a variety of wall papers. I chose my favorites. You can custom order from Ruby' which allows you to choose a paper of your choice! A small work of art!

This moose head is my favorite one of the group!  Z Gallerie has this one and more for just $199!

Brilliant Bath Tubs!

Lyndon B. Johnson once said "Every man has a right to a Saturday night bath."

Taking a hot soaking bath is an indulgence that many of us don't take because of our hectic schedules. Wait no more! Let me show some of the most brilliant bathtubs I have ever seen. Can you feel my excitement!  The Bath Works is a company based in England but also in Tennessee, USA! They offer fully restored freestanding original antique baths and vintage tubs and a selection of reproduction bath tubs based closely on the bath tubs they reproduce. They also have sales regularly on floor models and discontinued tubs. So if you are considering renovating your bathroom or are in the middle of a renovation now, you may just want to check these out! These cast iron, copper and honed stone tubs would be perfect in a restored 1800's bathroom!

Painted Cabinetry in the Kitchen!

For all of you older home lovers in New Jersey and New York, I want to expand your horizons! As an owner of an 1840's colonial in our Hunterdon/Morris Counties in NJ  as well as nearby Bucks County PA, there are so many homes that date back to the early 1800's and I also see many new homes styled after older colonials in many sprawling developments! When it comes to kitchen renovations many of us want to stick close to an original style of our home in the kitchen but with an updated and fresh look. Often enough stained cabinetry is chosen or just plain white or cream maybe because that is closest to what may have originally been there. Let me share with you some more subtle shades of color that can either be combined or stand alone in a kitchen and look fabulous! Do you like one more than the others? Let me know by posting your comment!

And of course I had to include a white one!
