A Perfect Little House!

A perfect little house would be a phrase I would use to describe my home! But today, I want to share with you a practical and very creative website Perfect Little House. The architectural designs available for purchase from $1,000-$2,000 features house and garage plans that are unique, interesting and beautiful! I just love them! Any of these designs would be a great addition to your neighborhood.

"In today's focus on sustainability, we design homes that are perfectly sized for individuals, couples, growing families and downsizing retirees. Our plans of single family residences are based on incorporating generous and useful front porches as an extension of the living space. Exterior spaces framed by edges of the houses create private exterior rooms that work well with neighboring buildings. Many of our house designs feature areas where pre-planned expansion may be integrated. A variety of layout alternatives coupled with an optional sustainable construction materials and methods specification offer a responsible and exciting approach to living in a Perfect Little House Company home. The great room concept is highlighted and scaled as a perfect space for family interaction or intimate conversations. Recalling vernacular traditional cottage architecture, our designs respect and integrate proper detailing and scale."

My Kitchen Pantry!

Do you have one of the awkward spaces that lead downstairs into the basement? Or perhaps a space like this?

Well, we do and it was becoming a spot that everything and anything was being hung, dropped and piled up on and was driving me crazy! Our kitchen was renovated which we shared here and one of the top desired spaces by most homeowners today is some sort of pantry. We just did not have the space so we improvised and used that stairwell leading to our basement to act as pantry/storage closet for us. Sorry for the bad photo taking, the space is just so tiny to get a decent shot......What do you think?

We love it! Although small, it satisfies our need of storage for odd and ends, gloves, hats, scarves, paper products, microwave, mixer and many other things. It always surprises me what you can find in there, ha ha....

My First Guest Post!

Hi, I’m Susi, a writer at a great community for interior designers, home decorators and other design professionals to meet other design lovers, share ideas and projects. I love to visit blogs and see all the amazing DIY transformations and design projects. Design Savvy of New Jersey asked me to write about how to add a modern twist to eclectic décor for my guest post today. Eclectic style is a great way to mix modern and vintage décor in a traditional style home. Here are eight of my favorite rooms that artfully mix eclectic décor with a modern twist. Enjoy!

This gorgeous living room is filled with eclectic modern style. Who doesn't love a classic brown leather chesterfield? It looks right at home with both antique and modern design.

A dark modern sofa anchors this eclectic living room. Traditional swivel occasional chairs are given a modern twist with purple and white ikat fabric. Love the contemporary mirror tables.

Tailored furnishings mix well with contemporary accents in sophisticated eclectic Love the lines of this sofa and the mix of accent pillows that add color to a room that has a very simple palette.

This traditional style room with a beamed ceiling and white fireplace sets the background for an eclectic collection of modern furnishings. A Tulip table can work in almost any décor.

Traditional chairs meet contemporary lighting and accessories in this modern eclectic living room. The bold red color of the antique chair looks great against the bright yellow floor lamp and black and white chevron rug.

A contemporary style four poster bed is so sleek. Love it paired with a Moroccan rug used as a coverlet that adds a global style to this chic bedroom.

Apple green upholstery is unexpected on a traditional roll-arm sofa. Paired with a Swan chair and zebra rug, the sofa feels modern despite its traditional form.

The white painted bamboo chair fits in with the modern décor of this chic bedroom. Love the green, white and brown palette that unifies the furniture and accessories.

Vintage Farmhouse Design Dilemma...

A beautiful family with three young girls left my home state NJ and built an exquisite replica of a classic farmhouse in upstate NY. She wrote to me for some help with her living room below. The challenge is that the space is open to the dining area, entry way and kitchen with no definite separation. Here are the photos below.

This simple farmhouse has an organic essence with a vintage vibe at the same time. The color pallet is very calm and soothing but notice the small pops in color in the artwork hung. I created a design board according the families budget and needs. There were a few specific requests the client had, they wanted a slip covered sofa for obvious reasons, the ability the clean them and with three young ones that is almost a certainty. The sofa should be smaller in scale so the space is not overpowered by it and the sofa should also work well with that great black and white ticking chair that client just had upholstered.  I really hope you enjoy the design below as much as I did putting it together!

First, I chose this great linen slip covered sofa by Restoration Hardware. The reason I chose this one is because is comes in great 6 foot length and it's depth and comfort are perfect for lounging. The fabric options are also duck cotton, velvet etc. The price is really good and when you catch a sale, even better!

Add these side tables, lighting, rugs and any of these accent pillows and this design really would work well in that space!
