Waterfront Living Room Design!

Creating a design for a living room in a NJ waterfront apartment was a great challenge and fun experience. My client is a busy professional single woman looking for a complete update in her new apartment. She wanted to incorporate certain colors lilac and soft blues and also wanted to keep her beautiful armoire that is a cherished possession. She had already begun the design by purchasing the Milo Sofa in cream from Macy's, so with the armoire and sofa already in the mix, my challenge was creating a design using traditional and contemporary pieces. Here are some photos of her apartment when I met with her for the first time!

Wow, what a view! Notice the window frames are a permanent teal blue color and that also needed to be taken into consideration. The angle of the window was another interesting feature and because she doesn't plan on staying there indefinitely, we decided on custom drapes that frame the window on both sides that can be taken with her when she moves. So here is one of the design boards I presented to her and with some tweaking, she has moved ahead with her apartment. Can't wait to see the final results!

What do you think? I certainly love it but I would love my reader's feedback so please leave me a comment below, it would mean so much!

**Update: The turquoise board used here is not the chosen wall color:) There is going to be a painted feature wall behind the sofa (maybe a soft blue) and the rest of the room is off white.

  1. I love them, can't wait to see pictures. The only pillow i don't totally love is the brown patterned one on the couch, however it may be because I can't really see it well. Love the colors!

  2. The soft natural hues and mixing two different styles is a favorite to me. Also the two individual chairs for a seperate converastion area I love, and the pillows that tie in the colors on the sofa. What a nice view you have to see while you work there :) cant wait to see the finished product!

  3. I think this will be an easy, laid back, comfortable room to lounge in, specifically given your wall color choices (the soft blue & cream) and i love the bird (peacock) pillow to throw in some bright color & excitement.
